Book of Beginnings
Jiri ZborilWhat is the meaning of the Big Bang theory and what does it have in common with the birth of a child? Do we really know the sources of Nile or Amazon rivers, or any stream for that matter? What is a seed, and what does it mean to eat eggs for breakfast? And most importantly, what happens when one starts exploring how beginnings reflect endings?
Flock Without Birds

Sunny and Rainy Days
Frantisek BurianekSunny and Rainy Days is part memoir, part chronicle of the 20th century Czechoslovakia. Burianek takes the reader on his youthful motorbike trips in the 1930s, through the horrors of WWII, to building a construction company with 200 employees within two years after the war, to seeing the company nationalized by the new communist regime and emigrating to South Africa, and returning after five years to keep a promise given to his wife. Through courtrooms, travels and family dinners, a man with equal passions for entrepreneurship and gardening struggles to live within—and sometimes beyond—the limits set by history.
Hejno bez ptaku
Filip DousekHejno bez ptaku zooms out to see the contours of society that are too large to notice in the day-to-day. It captures the invisible framework that shapes religions, politics, science and our daily decisions. It shows what’s too large and too present to notice—the blind spot of our civilization. This novel of ideas comes in two volumes, with the reader deciding which to read first. This Czech edition of Flock Without Birds received the “Most Beautiful Book of the Year” award for its design.
Neradost
Karel NovotnýDepression is not picky, anyone can get it. A marketer, consultant, father of two, friend, son, partner. Karel. Depression and death at his back, the second half of life ahead. It met him, as it met thousands of others. He had a choice to give in or not. And Karel chose to keep a diary. On the border between fiction, prose, and poetry, Novotny’s book mixes thoughts, dream images, and scenes from the author’s life. Fifteen artists supplemented the book with thirty illustrated postcards. The book won the “Most Beautiful Book of the Year” award in the category of young creators under 30.
